  Name: Nidia Carreira            Hometown: Newark, NJ   Nidia is currently serving as a member of Cedar 3 with the AmeriCorps NCCC at the Vinton Campus. Nidia is fluent in Portuguese and brings a wide variety of experiences to NCCC.  She has had exposure to different cultures and backgrounds though her travel and work.

AmeriCorps NCCC Class 18 Corps Member Spotlight: Keivon Henderson

His father was a corps member is Class 2 and described to Keivon how eye opening the experience was and the opportunities it presents.

NCCC Team Creates Memories in Wisconsin

By: Deon Johnson   AmeriCorps NCCC team, Oak 3, arrived in Belgium, Wis. eager to complete their last service project with the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust (OWLT). They are helping with land preservation, including removing invasive species and trail maintenance.   OWLT employees, Mike, the stewardship and restoration director, and Katie, a conservation specialist provided Oak 3 with an orientation.

VPRD honors Halloween costume winners

VPRD Halloween costume contest winners were honored Saturday   The annual Vinton Parks and Recreation Department "Halloween Skate Party" took place at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center Saturday night. The following picture features the Costume Contest winners. The three categories that were judged were Scariest, Funniest, Most Original. The winners and runner-ups of the costume contest are as follows (l-r): Lily Kerkman (Scariest Runner-Up), Addy Maynard (Most Original Winner), Colby Walker (Funniest Runner-Up), Renee Gram (Most Original Runner-Up), Ian Schuelka (Scariest Winner), Thomas Osborn (Funniest Winner).

MADD is celebrated each year on the 4th Saturday in October. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, it is the nation’s largest day of volunteering, thanks to the passion of millions of people.

Wild Hair Day: Tilford students (and some teachers) bring new styles

These four 4th grade students were among those with wild hair at Tilford on Thursday. Today, Thursday, Oct. 25, is Wild Hair Day at Tilford Elementary School. Many students and even some teachers came with strange wigs or colorful, creative coiffures.Here are a few photos.

NCCC Team Hits Home in Henryville

By: Justine Miller   NCCC team, Maple 5, arrived in Henryville six months after the March 2 tornado swept through the small town and destroyed hundreds of houses and shook up the community.   Upon arriving, the team took notice of the still fallen trees on the hillside adjacent from the newly rebuilt high school near the Twin Oaks Subdivision where the team would work with Habitat for Humanity to build 10 new houses.
